What we make
MASO makes women’s outerwear and nothing else. Wool long coats and short wool jackets, cotton gabardine trench coats, suede jackets, quilted down coats and wool capes — designed in Basildon, cut and finished in our studio there, and held in stock in the sizes and colours shown. The palette stays deliberately narrow: oat, bone and fog grey on one side, moss, olive and peat on the other, so a coat bought this year still sits with one bought two years ago.
How we work
We work in small, considered runs of a fixed range rather than chasing a new silhouette every few weeks. A style begins as a flat pattern, goes to a first sample in the real cloth, and gets worn around the studio for a week — over a jumper, in the rain, with hands in the pockets — before we commit. Cloth is bought for how it behaves rather than how it photographs: wool coating heavy enough to hold a shoulder, gabardine tight enough to shed a shower, suede soft in the hand but firm in the collar. Once a style is right we cut a full size run, finish it, hang it overnight to settle, then bag it and put it on the racks. Because everything is finished before it is listed, what you see on the site is what is physically in the studio.
